Doing some samples for testing

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I have spent the last weeks doing samples for Nickelodeon… well more time was spent just trying to get my computer working, but when it does decide to function, I was doing samples. I am pencil testing to get approved as an illustrator for SpongeBob, Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go. I also turned in a sample on a new show called Ni Hao, Kai-lan. Hopefully all goes well and I can proceed to the color stages soon.

I am now working on some Ben 10 samples for Cartoon Network. After that I’d like to see if I can do some samples for Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends and become an approved artist for those licenses as well.

I was also told by my contact at CN, that the PowerPuff Girls are still doing well in Europe. And I did alot of PPG work some years ago. Hopefully I can find my way into the european market as well.

When I am finished with the process, I’ll go ahead and post the test pics I did.

Another Valentines Art Piece

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

OK, I posted on a painting I did for Valentines Day because my wife found out about that one. But there was another piece I had been working on that she DIDN’T find out about, so now that Valentines is over, I’ll post that one too. because it’s cool.

I stole the idea from mosaics that I found on flicker…. I liked the idea of constructing a color theme using various photos found. Well my wifes favorite color is magenta, so I took a bunch of pictures of things around us that are in that color range and then arranged them into a mosaic. It is 24″x24″ so I took it to photomation in Buena Park, CA and they printed it out. It came out nice and she really liked it, so here it is. Oh, and I’m going to include a picture of her too… because she is nicer to look at than any piece of art I can make.

New Painting

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I have some canvas panels sitting around the studio that I used for experiments back a while ago. Yesterday I decided to paint over one. It had several areas of the board with small segments of texture… either gesso I applied in swirly patterns or some modeling paste I goobed on in wavy textures …

Anyway, I painted over the whole thing with red acrylic, then painted over a portion of that with some orange that blended in. Then I added some gold squares as a counter to the red.

After looking at it, I decided to border the weak side with a purple design. I thought it came out kinda cool, so I’m putting it up here.

If I were to do it again, I’d be more careful and exact on the placement of the squares and rework the way I applied the purple. But all in all, I like the colors. It has an oriental feel to it … at least to me.
