The Museum of Patent Art was a series of approximately 20 wall pieces, each illustrating some aspect of the landmark patent case Alice v. CLS Bank.

The images shown here are concept sketches developed during the early stages of the project. Although they were not selected for the final installation, I’ve always liked these versions for their more expressive and exploratory quality. With the exception of the top-right piece, they remain in relatively rough form and show some of the visual thinking that went into developing the finished series.
