I created the FishFAQs name, helped establish the format and visual approach for the series, selected topics from the firm’s existing FAQs, and wrote the initial scripts, which were then reviewed by the attorneys for legal and technical accuracy.
Coming to patent law from outside the profession gave me a useful perspective when developing the scripts. I could identify terminology or concepts that might be second nature to a patent attorney but unclear to a prospective client, and structure the videos to explain those ideas in accessible language.
From there, I storyboarded each video and created the graphics and illustrations from scratch. I used After Effects to animate the artwork and create the motion graphics, then assembled the scenes in Premiere Pro, combining the animation, voice-over, music, and other elements into the finished video.
This became the basic production workflow for much of the FishFAQs series, taking each topic from subject selection and initial script through storyboarding, illustration, animation, editing, and final delivery.
